the Greyfreth Collection -- Gifts from the Sea
Antique Shell Bottles and Sea Life Sculptures by Isabeau Grey

Fiery chandelier crystals beautifully embellish a highly textured specimen of Elks Horn Coral, bringing a lovely tension of rustic and refined. Heavy, weathered solder bind the crystals and coral together and forever hold it to the etched vessel of tarnished silver which serves as a perfect pedestal. The pedestal is Baroque in design and is extremely weighty and substantial. Tiny pearls of polished solder ramdomly dot the perimeter of the coral's base, adding whimsy to the layers of texture, while the calcification forming on the patina and silver lend the illusion that the piece is salt encrusted as if it had spent a century lost and hidden away beneath the sea.

Small and beautiful branches of white lace coral serve as a lovely crown to an incredibly patinated early 20th century Medicinal bottle. The coral has gorgeous calcification, resulting in a gorgeous variation in both texture and tone. The embossed antique bottle of pale aqua glass was found on the sea floor during a shipwreck dive in the Atlantic and has its own stunning elements. Heavy, organically sculptured solder washed in the weathered hues of iron left to the elements for years on end forever bind the finial to its base. The bottle is donned in a veil of patina and filligreed calcification which add a ethereal element, while vivid iridescence reveals itself within the textured patina adding yet another level of beauty. This piece is a wonderful testament to the magic of time, the elements and the beauty within the sea.

A hauntingly beautiful, fragile white sea fan coral, while frozen in time, gives the illusion of still swaying within the dance of the ocean's rhythm. Serving as the pedestal for the ethereal coral crown is a late 19th to early 20th century chemist bottle with measurement ticks embossed on one side.

Hand blown and wavy, the glass was originally silvered to keep light from altering the contents within. The color is amazing. Warm, almost pale gold with a soft reflection reminiscent of 18th c. verre églomisé mirrors.

Both complementing and contrasting with the soft and delicate characteristics of the sea fan coral, a duo of crystal chandelier remnants twinkle brightly from their frame of heavy solder... another gorgeous justaposition. The Heavy, barnacle-like solder is washed in the hues of century old salt corroded iron, and forever binds the soft coral crown and crystals to the sublime pedestal.

Photographs just do not do this piece justice. This is a very special piece of our Sea Life Sculpture Collection, and a perfect addition to any discerning collector's anthology.

A hauntingly beautiful black sea fan coral boasts the most amazing sanguine highlights that fade towards the tips in soft shades of cinnabar. Serving as the pedestal for the ombré coral crown is a mid 19th century (between 1850 and 1860) antique 'black glass' bottle that was found by treasure seekers on a dig in New Orleans.

Hand blown and perfect within its imperfections, this c 1840-50 bottle, called "black glass" (because it looks black until light passes through it) is actually a very deep sage green. Both embedded and burst bubbles offer character and texture, while the dark, rich hue is the perfect background for the iridized, natural masterpiece by way of patina.

Underneath a layer of ethereal calcification, which is beautiful alone, lies a breathtaking, iridescent patina which took well over a century to create. The deep, vivid colors are a result of time, the elements, and a reaction between the minerals in the soil and the lime and magnesium used to make the glass. Heavy, barnacle-like solder, washed in the hues of century old salt corroded copper, forever bind the soft coral crown to its sublime pedestal.

Photographs just do not do this piece justice.
