Greyfreth NIGHTSEA COLLECTION

Commanding in size and mysterious beauty, a crystal-bejeweled dark sea fan coral crowns a rare 18th century bottle of antique mercury glass. Double walled and hand-blown, the glass is thick and undulated, giving it an underwater quality. Once bright and uniform in color, the silver is now beautifully degraded after over 100 years of exposure to elements. Now ethereal and lovey combinations of pale burnished gold and variegated hues of silver and a touch of rust veil the interior walls of glass, bringing an air of faded grandeur and a mysterious sort of beauty.

Reminiscent of a winter bare tree, the limbs of the sea fan stretch skyward, showing each beautiful nuance. Seemingly growing from a seabed of solder, the large sea fan is rich in texture, elegant in pattern -- part of the beautiful symphony of both contrasting and complementing elements within this one of a kind piece of art. A stunning relic of the sea, it boasts warm hues which range from almost black to red-tinged cinnabar. thinning and fading to delicate sanguine tips. Deceiving in looks, the sea fan is not a plant, but rather a soft coral colony and has an ethereal translucence which is most lovely at the tips and bathed in light.

Below the limbs, forever held within a frame of dark, heavy solder, an asymmetrically placed, eclectic mix of antique, vintage and new crystal chandelier remnants rise like air bubbles along the trunk and under the lowest limbs of the coral - offering a refinement and opulence as they twinkling and refracting ambient light. This is a one of a kind piece of art and is signed and dated.

Greyfreth NIGHTSEA COLLECTION

A Rhapsody in Texture and Tone
A rare, 19th century Mercury glass bottle serves as the mesmerizing pedestal for this incredibly beautiful piece. Double walls of hand blown glass is wavy and possesses a watery beauty. The patina between the glass is incredible. Naturally occurring over 125 years, the combination of minerals and elements within rain, earth, the silver and whatever happened by is a one of a kind piece of art by time and the elements. Warm golds, cool silvers, dark gunmetal greys, swirl this way and that. Along the shoulders is a show of colors and shape that are reminiscent of the eye of Jupiter. Words and photographs cannot possibly do justice to the magnitude of beauty that is here.

Crowning the antique mercury glass bottle is a crystal bejeweled Octopus Coral beautifully haloed by a pale and fragile white sea fan. Soft and ethereal, tattered and frail, the weathered sea fan both contrasts and complements the heavy, upright and geometrical qualities of the bright white coral. It is a gorgeous juxtaposition and striking in both texture and tone. Pearls of Solder appear here and there while a trio of Swarovski crystals emulate tiny air bubbles clinging to the barnacle-like solder and play off of the plethora of round cups present over the surface of the coral. This is a one of kind piece of art and is signed and dated.

Greyfreth NIGHTSEA COLLECTION

Bejeweled in antique crystal chandelier remnants and shrouded in the mysterious, ethereal beauty of the sea, a large, hauntingly beautiful black sea fan is forever frozen in time, as if still swaying to undulating currents. Trapped under the lowest branches on one side, air bubbles of sublime crystal mirror the sinuous posture of the coral, making it seem as though they are moving towards the surface and sway in the same undulated form as the sea fan. Meticulously cut and highly refractive, the antique crystal adds elements of both whimsy and of refinement to the rustic quality of the coral.

Limbs imbued with variegated browns and saturated ebony gently fade to softer hues, as they thin to delicate tips of opaque sanguine. The coral looks as though it is a plant, but is actually a soft coral colony and looks especially lovely when light shines on its tips, revealing the semi-opaque quality.

Serving as the pedestal is a rare and beautiful 19th century mercury glass bottle. Double walled, hand blown glass is undulated, which gives the illusion of water, while the soft, ethereal veil of muted metals offers a mesmerizing masterpiece of natural patina. Well over a century in the making, the once soft silver now boasts hues of golds, greys, variegated silvers and rust - too beautiful for words. Photographs do not do this piece justice. This is a one of kind piece of art and is signed and dated.
